The rumour about this spell soon reached the Eagles.
Horrified, Hope’s parents rushed to the Wiseman for help
and told him all they’d heard.
The Wiseman hurried at once to a secret place.
After seven days, he came back to them and said,
“I used all my magic powers, but my strength
was not enough to defeat the curse….”

As the Wiseman spoke, Hope’s parents wondered at his strange manner.
Perturbed, they took a closer look and suddenly realised the grim truth.
The Wiseman was blind – he had sacrificed his own sight, hoping to save Hope’s.
With thankful tears and awe, asking forgiveness, they fell on their knees…

But the Wiseman quietly said, his voice sad,
“I know, I know…but it had to be done – this spell is strong…and still …
it has only reduced some of the power of the curse…

Hope will see all the good in the world as all children,
but she’ll remain blind to the evil and greedy, to all thieves and liars.
She will be blind to all the bad creatures on Earth
– be they man, beast or tree…”

With deep gratitude and tears of sorrow, but still afraid of Móhrdai’s wrath,
Hope’s parents asked the Wiseman to never speak of this again.

But in the dark of the night none saw Grey in the shape of a crow,
quiet in the shadows, he heard every word they said.

Never again was this secret spoken of.
Not even Móhrdai and Gamóhra knew the curse was changed.
The Crow stayed silent and bided his time, waiting
to use this knowledge to his own advantage.

The Wiseman never again spoke about the legend and it slowly faded away…
Many years passed by and tragedy struck Hope’s family.
Both her parents passed away and their secret was buried with them.
The evil spell of the witch was forgotten.

Hope’s two brothers took good care of her.
She seemed to be like all other children and no-one knew she was cursed.
And, just as the old legend said, she and Freedom
fell in love the first time they met.

From that moment on, they were almost inseparable,
even though her brothers didn’t really approve.
All the mountain folk loved the couple – their hearts were pure
and they always helped those in need.

Side by side, they walked in the forest, listening to the bird’s songs,
at night – counting the stars in the sky.

In secrecy, Freedom had given Hope a beautiful ring.
They were only waiting to come of age,
so they could announce their engagement.
